WILLEMSTAD - Curaçao recently signed a treaty on behalf of the Kingdom of the Netherlands with the United States of America, which delineates the conditions under which Curaçao will function as a logistical hub for humanitarian aid from the US to Venezuela.

The treaty clearly specifies the terms and conditions under which Curaçao will function as a humanitarian hub, as agreed upon and discussed in the Curacao government and in Parliament. One of the main conditions concerns the requirement that only civilian assets can be used for the transport of the humanitarian goods. Another article in the treaty stipulates that in case logistical reasons require an exemption, other assets for transport can only be used after prior approval of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, which can be provided only after specific prior consent of the Prime Minister of Curaçao. The Curaçao government will not authorize that its territory be used for military actions of the United States in Venezuela.

The Curaçao government emphasizes that the role of Curaçao as a humanitarian hub has the sole purpose to help aliviate the dire situation of the people of Venezuela
