Today again is a memorable day for Curacao in terms of air connectivity, as we are gathered her to celebrate the inaugural flight of Caribbean Airlines connecting Curacao in a direct service between Trinidad and Tobago and Curacao.
As the Minister responsible inter alia for Civil Aviation you can imagine that it gives me great joy that the Connectivity of Curacao is gradually expanding again. Increased connectivity is one of our major priorities for the Curacao Government. Therefore I am so proud to see CARIBBEAN AIRLINES to contribute to this undertaking in a most professional manner by adopting a sustainable tourism policy aiming to achieve a positive impact of its operations
This flight is, I hope, the beginning of many more to come in connecting Curacao with the Caribbean market and beyond.
The region has and still suffers from the crisis in Venezuela. This has also consequences for the number of passengers flying to and via Hato airport. The number of passengers went down for a couple of years now, but we have taken a turn for the better. Passenger numbers are increasing and it gives me great pleasure that Caribbean Airlines contributes to increasing the number of tourists and business people visiting Curacao. Likewise for us adding Port of Spain to the network is an important step to achieve our aim to improve connectivity. Just a couple of months ago we opened the renovated Hato airprt building, thus working towards continuous improvement in every matter related to sustainability and ensuring customer satisfaction of the travelers.
CARIBBEAN AIRLINES, founded in 2006 is an authentic Caribbean airline which provides a genuine Caribbean experience on all its services. These are the magic words of CARIBBEAN AIRLINE. Let us embrace this Caribbean experience.
Therefore please allow me to extend a heartfelt welcome to CARIBBEAN AIRLINES, our Caribbean neighbors and friends on its first touchdown on the soil of Curaçao from Port of Spain, Trinidad. We are so enthusiastic to once again welcome our Caribbean partners, brothers and sisters. This deserves a warm Welcome Home embrace.
