HAVANA / WILLEMSTAD - The president of the Curacao Boxing Association (CuraBox), Edwin Baas, was invited by the International Boxing Association (IBA) to celebrate International Boxing Day on August 27 in Havana, Cuba.
This year’s International Boxing Day also marks 50 years since the first-ever IBA World Boxing Championships, which were held in Havana in 1974. There was a forum of the American Boxing Confedartion (AMBC), an open training for 500 children and a Champions’ Night with Cuba vs boxers from Uzbekistan, Dominican Republic, Armenia, Colombia and Russia.
In addition to the presidents of the various countries, two boxing legends were also invited. The photo atteched shows Edwin Baas with boxing legends Roberto Durán and Miguel Cotto. Both Roberto Duran "Manos de Piedra" from Panama, and Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico, became multiple-time world champion in four weight classes.
